Thanks for visiting and taking an interest in my blog.  I started this blog to share some of the knowledge, experience and some of my own thoughts on information security… specifically as it affects us in Canada.  Like many of you, I have my areas of expertise, but am always interested in learning from the experiences of others in and outside of the field.

I’ve spent a number of years working with different technologies and vendors and currently work at Websense  as the Country Manager for Canada.

Although Websense has its roots in Web filtering and continues to develop its core strength in discovering and classifying content across all its product offerings… it has emerged as a global leader in integrated Web, data and email security solutions, Providing Essential Information Protection for organizations worldwide.

Distributed through its global network of channel partners, Websense software and hosted security solutions help organizations block malicious code, prevent the loss of confidential information and enforce Internet use and security policies.   Websense provides unprecedented visibility into the internal and external movement of information in the Web 2.0 world … ok, so that was my extended elevator pitch..but hopefully gives you an idea of where I am coming from :-)

I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario then went on to earn a BSc and BEd from the University of Ottawa, in Ottawa, Canada where I currently reside. I am a huge Montreal Canadien’s Fan and an even bigger Dallas Cowboys fan…these two statements alone should generate a host of comments !

So enough about me.  Welcome to my blog. My ultimate goal here is to post some thoughts on the IT security world and get each of you to ask questions, add your comments and provide insights as well.

p.s… as a general disclaimer I want to make sure everyone is aware that I work for a Security vendor – Websense.  Although it is NOT my intent to use my blog to market my company’s product, it is a lens I do see a lot of the security world through, and certainly do plan to leverage any relevant content created internally, just as I plan to leverage any provided to me by third parties – be they competitors, analysts or otherwise.  So if you see a whitepaper or flash demo referenced on my site don’t be surprised if it’s got a logo from Websense, or some other security/technology vendor.

p.p.s… Just to make sure the legal department is happy…Let me clarify, this is my personal blog and the postings on this site are my own opinions and thoughts…and do not necessarily represent those of my employer, Websense.

I, for one, welcome an open educational discussion about the challenges and responses to managing a Web 2.0 world.
